Yuki Kobayashi is visual and performance artist, born in Tokyo, Japan in 1990, lives and works in London and Tokyo. He holds MA Fine Art, Painting, Performance from Royal College of Art 2016. BA Fine Art, Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design 2014. Kobayashi was invited to perform widely, including Fluxus events score during solo exhibition of Christian Marclay at White Cube Gallery, Bermondsey, London (2015). Performance Art Meeting, at Galeria Labirynt, Lublin, Poland (2015). Slick Art Fair, Paris (2015). Revolve, Performance Art Days, Uppsala Konstmuseum, Sweden (2016). Dada 100 festival Tokyo, at Spiral, Japan (2016). VDA Titanikas, Vilnius, Lithuania (2016). Kobayashi’s first solo show “New Gender Bending Strawberry” was exhibited in Chabah Yelmani Gallery, Brussels in 2015. His one month durational performance work “Policy until Christmas 2016” was represented in the exhibition of Yoko Ono & Rirkrit Tiravanija “Acting Together” at ASAKUSA Gallery, Tokyo. Kobayashi is member of artist duo with Sandra Stanionyte and their first show exhibited in Kabitetas, Kaunas, Lithuania (2016).
Yuki Kobayashi is Japan-born Performance Artist who uses his body to explore the
neutrality of gender and to question racial stereotypes. Looking into human relations, he creates the resonance between restriction and fluidity in time and space. Kobayashi’s action-based performance seek to reveal the authenticity of the human condition, working with the unexpected and the spontaneous to discover the invisible. Questioning both power and restrictive social codes towards a more uncertain world of freedom and equality.
